Even though I’ve been a Christian for 20 years – and I am totally confident in Christ in many ways. My achilles heel was recognising who I am, in Christ. Not what people say I am or think I should be, but who I was born and destined to be. The truth is it’s been a constant mind battle and daily walk to overcome. I had to recognise and know my worth….Uganda was the place where I could not run, but had to face my demon of self-doubt and fear.
I was assigned the role of the media person. A passion and a gift I had let go of and buried deep for many years. But as of November 2012, I could no longer live a mediocre life, it was time to step into my calling and a new season. As I said, I found myself being a multi-platform journalist in Uganda (ironic because I’m not very clued up with new media technology – still learning). What I found about myself -as I rushed around doing interviews, taking photographs and filming footage -was that I can do all things through the strength of Christ Jesus. I was resilient, focused, joyful and calm!! It was not at all stressful. Why? I realised that I was born to do this and I did not entertain a single doubt!
Speaking to the people involved in TEAMS Gulu, being on the ground hearing their stories seeing the struggles they went through, yet they possess so much Joy and un-quenching faith. I felt privileged and blessed that they would trust me and allow me to record their personal experiences and communicate their message through use of media. That through this others will be encouraged and inspired to act and believe that change is possible.
For me the TEAMS mission trip reaffirmed my calling and purpose in life. It reignited my passion to see people being loved and valued in this generation, especially the youth. To see the future generation given an opportunity to achieve their destiny. I realised that I need to ACT, MOVE and DO something to help the change happen. By being who I am, I can bring the change. The question is WHO AM I?
I am Stephanie Anyan, daughter of the King, saved by love, called to love and communicate His love through the means of media. In order to ignite faith, encourage passion and spur others to act in the love of Christ.
